Lunch and Networking with Johnathan Thurston

Fantastic to be in Kalgoorlie last month as the Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber presented an amazing event with rugby league great Johnathan Thurston, held at the Goldfields Arts Centre.

At the event, Johnathan shared his life story and business experience in Kalgoorlie-Boulder to encourage Indigenous business owners and inspire the region’s young people. The afternoon was attended by Year 10, 11 and 12 Aboriginal students from Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Coolgardie along with representatives from businesses and mining companies.

Johnathan has had a remarkable career as an elite athlete, ambassador and business owner. He is the founder of The Johnathan Thurston Academy, which provides assistance to disadvantaged communities and youth and aims to be a leading national provider of employment initiatives and training programs aimed at health, wellbeing, sport and education across Australia. He was also appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 — an honour that recognises Australian citizens for outstanding achievement and service.

The Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber’s lunch and networking with Johnathan Thurston was one of many great events held in October for Indigenous Business Month.

“It was a privilege to join attendees from across Kalgoorlie, Boulder, Coolgardie and Kambalda today to listen to the inspirational JT,” our Community Relations Manager Nicole Stein said.
